History in the Making!

You guys, if you haven't heard the news about North and South Korea, I would assume you are living under a rock! Ok, or it's probably just more on our radar... Regardless! It's super exciting.
Kim Jong-un (North) and Moon Jae-in (South) have signed a preliminary peace treaty to end the Korean war and when they met at the DMZ (demilitarized zone: neutral zone between the north and south) they took turns walking on each country's soil. Something that hasn't happened since the DMZ was established.
There is a possibility the DMZ may not exist as it is now when we arrive! Exciting times!
Here I am at the DMZ in 2011. You can tell I'm really comfortable by how I'm standing 😂 but really, it was super creepy there...

I also read this morning that there will.no longer be "Pyeongyang time" (Pyeongyang is the capital of North Korea) and they have merged with South Korea. Honestly a lot of really encouraging news which is great timing for us since I know it's been a concern for a lot of people. I also have this nagging feeling that it is almost too good to be true but I'm really hoping that's not the case.
We are looking forward to being there for Liberation Day on August 15 when it's rumored families will be reunited for the first time in over 60 years!

Sweater Weather Greetings folks! Things at school have definitely picked up and we are halfway through Term 1! Exciting but we definitely do not have any breaks between now and Christmas. However, the year 2 classes are going on a field trip on Wednesday to give us all a bit of a break. We are going to a place called the Zooarium where we all get to pet various types of animals. Should be interesting! We have gotten more into a rhythm of work and weekends so we have been living a more normal life rather than doing too much sight seeing. It is nice that the weather is changing--seeing all the changing leaves is always such a pleasant sight and the cooler weather is quite welcome after such a hot and humid summer. The one downside is we are having to pay closer attention to the air quality and we get alerts when it's bad. The students aren't permitted to be outside if the air quality is at a certain level. Life is tough but so am I

Yeah my title is a bit cheesy but yesterday was maybe the first day when I was really aware of how difficult it can be to be a foreigner. We've been able to get by enough with the tiny bit of Korean we know but it would be so much better if we could learn more. Saturday September 1, 10:30 AM We had several errands we needed to get done today so we set off to go get some stuff done. The kids need specific things for their school uniforms: Finn needs black shoes and gray socks and we needed indoor shoes for Lucy. We started by taking a bus to a place called Hi-Mart but they didn't have what we needed, however, we did find an iron so that was helpful. It was now around 11:30 and we were all getting hungry. The kids are still picky about Korean food (getting better though!) so another challenge was finding somewhere that wasn't Western food, healthy, affordable, and appetizing for all 4 of us. Do All the Things!

Hi everyone! I finally have a break to blog-we have either been doing all the things or taking all the naps... After the kids were the worst I have ever seen them during dinner one night, we realized we really have been pushing ourselves too much. It was just so exciting being back and we wanted to quickly get acquainted with our new neighborhood. Plus our apartment didn't have a whole lot to offer the kids so getting out made more sense. But it was so hot that being out was just that much more of a conundrum... So we have spent the last week figuring out our rhythm and our limits. I mean, we know what to expect and what we like to eat, etc. but the kids are still trying to figure that out.
