All Good in the Hood

Hey all! Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement after my last post! Rest assured, there are PLENTY of coffee shops to get my fix at any given time. Literally, there is a block right down the way that has 7... I was just in one of those areas where I guess we were on a strip with more of the corporate places and I didn't want the go to Starbucks...

Anyway, things are just fine. We are managing to get what we need and everything is falling into place. Of course there are still things that we think we have all squared away only to have to take two steps back and do it again. And yes, I know people are happy to help but I just 1.) Feel bad asking for help ALL the time and 2.) Am also too stubborn to ask because 3.) Challenges are all part of learning and growing... But don't worry, I'll ask for help on occasion 😅

Anyway, the kids are doing great. They both love school--Finn took a little adjustment but he has made some cute friends and enjoys most of his classes, especially PE! He also started Taekwondo last week which he was so excited about and said it was perfect! Haha I asked him why and it's because he fought someone to the ground. Uh... Were you supposed to do that?! Yeah! He tried to fight me and he almost did but I got him! ...lol ok...

They are also doing better with the food, Lucy still less so but Finn is at least trying things. He eats kimbap now which has vegetables (way better than ramen which is all he was eating when we'd go out!) bulgogi, mandu (Korean dumplings), and dongatsu (friend pork cutlet). School provides mostly Korean food for lunch so he'll eat most of that too. He has also enjoyed paying for things and trying to learn more Korean. I wish he had more opportunity to learn the language but school is focused on English and Mandarin. I'm sure he'll pick up some here and there but I would like him to get more exposure.

I only hear good things from Lucy's school which is great! She's super happy there--love music, art, and overall learning. She also adjusted to the bus right away and aside from a couple mornings, no tears and she goes on happily!

We have slowed down our exploring since we've been busy with school but saw some super cool things before school started. We are also exploring our own neighborhood and finding favorite shops, restaurants, parks, etc.

Here is the recap from the last few weeks!
Beautiful sunset near our place

Octopus anyone?

We met up with our dear friend Janell whom we met last time we were in Korea and she treated us to a trip to the top of Lotte Tower: 5th tallest in the world!

Looking down 121 floors through a glass floor 😲

My beer...with cinnamon on top 🤷

My favorite coffee shop! (Thanks to a co-worker for showing me!!)

Convenience stores have displays and freezers full of popsicles and ice cream.

We slept in so we went to the International church in Hannam and saw people we recognized from last time! Fun community but we would prefer to walk to the one in our area.

Finn and I took a solo trip to Costco. It all went super well until we got off the bus to transfer and couldn't find our next bus so had to take a taxi 🙄

Reporting on the typhoon that never really hit...

Our washing machine...

First Friday of school, hanging out with some of the staff on the roof!

Lucy has dubbed these: "baby cars" and gets really excited when she sees them.

They have really nice table manners 🙄 but at least they are eating Korean food 🤷

Cat walking 😂

Someone was throwing this scooter away soooo it now has a new home!

Picnic in the park. Lucy is eating an Asian pear! So yummy and less expensive than in the states.

We went for a mini adventure after E- Mart and found a little street market. The grandma in the background was talking all in Korean to us and I so desperately wish I knew what she was saying 😭

More scooter adventures! Brett was off at a soccer game so we went to Seolleung station for some McDonald's and Hotteok 😋

Hotteok: cinnamon/brown sugary filled pancakes. Warm, sticky, and delicious. These will be a favorite treat when it's freezing outside!

Discovered our Play-Doh this morning! Ah finally some piece and quiet that doesn't involve them watching TV!

That'll about catch us up until today! We are heading to Itaewon to take a look around and have some food. I keep hearing it's changed a bunch since the last time we were here so I'm intrugued... Beautiful weather today! Sunny and warm 😊
