#jetlag

Hi everyone!
We finally have WiFi in the apartment and the kids are almost over their jetlag so I am finally able to do some updates!
This post covers our flights and first night in Korea!

After repacking and organizing and weighing all the luggage and making sure we had everything in addition to extra purchases and birthday presents: I'm talking ALL. THE. THINGS (because everything was going to fit, gosh darn it!) we headed up to San Clemente as a prolonged pit stop. The idea was to spend the day here in order to break up the trip up to LAX. Plus Vince and MT's place is fabulous and San Clemente is home to my favorite chili relleno burrito (you heard that right, folks, I have a favorite Mexican food 😂). The kids were also able to burn off some energy on a walk and two trips to the playground which, before a 13 hour plane ride, was essential.

Both kids fell asleep on the car ride but unfortunately Lucy woke up while we were in LAX traffic. Getting all our luggage out of the car was mild chaos but we did it. The woman at the counter was SO nice. She gave us an additional checked bag at no cost and allowed me to take my carry on even though it was well over the weight allowance. Also, remember how I mentioned I weighed all the luggage? Yeah, none was over the limit so don't mind me as I toot my own horn here for a sec 🎺.

All of our belongings... Everything else is in a storage unit in Boise or sold/donated!

The airport was actually pretty easy too. The kids were excited and enjoyed the moving walkways and watching the airplanes. We were also able to board first since Lucy hasn't turned 2 yet which was nice. We had assigned seats but just being able to get situated before the masses was helpful. Oh and we didn't pay for a seat for Lucy so the four of us shared a three seater...

The flight started out pretty rough but we finally got Lucy to relax around 1 only for the airline to provide a meal at 1:30 😂🤦‍♀️. Eventually we all got some sleep. Lucy and Finn alternated sleeping on the floor and on the seat which worked pretty well. Brett and I each got around 6 hours and Finn was the winner with close to 8!
Another struggle was about 2:30-3:30 where Lucy was just upset and wouldn't go back to sleep and we still had another hour and a half left. Thankfully breakfast arrived around 3:30 which helped provide a distraction.

Literally never happened lol. We flew the whole time and arrived in Taipei on the 8th... So... 🤷

oh hai Boise!

Happy Birthday Grama!! ♥️
We landed in Taipei and we were a little bit of a mess. Not too bad but definitely struggling with sleep deprivation and at this point we weren't sure if we had skipped a meal or not? The transfer gate wasn't open when we arrived (our plane arrived about 30 minutes ahead of schedule) so we had to convince the kids to hang tight and wait in line... So fun 😲

Once we got through we stopped for coffee and about 4 different trips to the restroom. We really need to work on syncing our potty breaks 😂 It was on one of our trips to the bathroom, however, that two young women squealed at Lucy and pinched her cheeks, remarking how cute she is. It was a funny encounter for sure.

After coffee, we were really starting to lose it... Kids were tired but also bored and ready to move around and I must not have eaten enough or something because I started feeling dizzy and lightheaded and had to lie down until we boarded. This flight we actually got four seats to ourselves which was very nice but the TV's were not as great. Oh well. There was a feature on the plane where you could view in front of and below the plane. So you could look on the radar and find where the plane was and get a closer view with the plane cameras- pretty neat!

We arrived in Seoul about an hour later than predicted which was a bummer; mainly because we all just wanted to be done... The Seoul airport is so nice and straight forward and going through customs and immigration wasn't too difficult-only Lucy... Lucy was starting to get pretty difficult. She was definitely over tired and that manifests in defiance and independence: two traits that will be great as she gets older but now it's just stressful and exhausting!

All of our luggage was intact and accounted for and our driver was waiting for us right outside baggage claim. It was so hot and humid the second we stepped outside which was exciting because it was just like, we are really here and this is so exciting! The drive from the airport was fun because we were seeing familiar sights and everything just kept getting more real.

Some people from our school met us at our apartment and had pizza ready for us which was so nice! We were given some time to decompress a bit in which time Finn promptly locked himself out of his room. (We had no keys and the landlord came at like 6:30)

We then walked to our new school and we're shown how to get to E-Mart. Kind of a lot on the first day and we were pretty overwhelmed at this point. We returned to our apartment hot, exhausted, and dreading the fact that we weren't going to be able to have coffee in the morning in preparation for our health assessment 😲 I also could not find my wallet so I was trying to be polite and pay attention to my bearings while also trying to figure out where the heck my wallet might be. Turns out I had put it in my bag already and didn't see it because it was at the bottom... #jetlag
We all, however, slept quite well in our new home ☺️
